Horace Clarke!!!! You're killing me. What a horrendous bunch of frauds those late '60s-early '70s Yankees were. Jake Gibbs. Fritz Peterson. Tom Tresh. Joe Pepitone. Mike Kekich. Jerry Kenney. Stan Bahnsen. Ron ``The Boomer'' Blomberg.

    Blech.

On the other hand, I loved Lucky Lindy McDaniel and Gene ``Stick'' Michael.

    Pac Man? How about Pong?

... remember letting your finger take the free ride back on the dial phone.

... remember the ``change back from your dollar'' ads for McDonald's.

... remember what a big deal it was when Joe Namath wore white shoes.

... remember when Sesame Street first came on (I was too old for it, but my little brother and sister watched it).

... remember your dad complaining because gas went above 30 cents a gallon.

... grew up fantasizing about one day owning a Plymouth Roadrunner with the 426 engine.

... remember when Coke came in 6 1/2 oz and 10 oz bottles, and a 12 oz. Coke seemed huge. Or you'd got to the concession stand at a game and a small coke was a dime a large was a quarter.

... remember pinball machines with digit counters. Games without gimmicks like magna-save and multi-ball that you had to play for hours just to get to 50,000 points

    * remember playing Strat-o-Matic baseball or holding mock NFL drafts straight from a Street & Smith's college football mag while watching Hazel re-runs. Oh, that Shirley Boothe.
    * remember when Jay Mariotti used to drive his old VW to the cheapest gas station in town, hand the attendant all the change he had, and ask, "97 cents' worth, please."
    * remember gobbling up those tremendous "$10,000" candy bars, which got worse with inflation.
    * remember watching Gump Worsley and Andy Brown play goal without masks, and, man, they needed 'em.
    * remember when a Cherry Coke required a mixture from two fountains.
    * remember when your rich New York uncle bought you an Atari (you can still hear the rhythmic Pong . . . . Pong . . . )
    * remember when the "Lickety Splits" weren't just a fkids show, but another breathless chance to see that crush-worthy blonde girl in the live-action, stranded-on-an-island-show segments.
    * remember when the kid on "H.R. Puffenstuff" picked up his ringing conch phone every time with "Shell-o?"
    * remember when RFK and Martin Luther King Jr. were assassinated in the same year, and you thought the world was ending.
    * remember when your big brother hitch-hiked home from college and once, as a miscalculated gag at the height of the hijacking era, wore green fatigues, clutched a brown paper bag and spoke with a Cuban accent on the rare flight your parents made him take.
    * remember wood, small-head tennis raquets, like your Bjorn Borg with the longer, two-handed grip.
sorry, got lost in nostalgia there...

Packages of Fritos had little plastic dinosaurs in them, and you were supposed to collect them all.
A pair of P.F. Flyers came with a pseudo-scrimshaw whale tooth whistle.
