I always thought it was Chongo. Oh, well. I do remember the Banana Splits' names -- Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky. And remember the Sour Grapes Bunch?

... remember watching WTCG, channel 17 (This is your old pal Drooper from Super 17!) before it was a cable superstation and before it was WTBS. How about Officer Don and the Popeye Club, with Orville the Green Dragon? Beanie and Cecil?

Anyone else remember Marvel the Mustang? Those ads for Slim Whitman's greatest hits (not to mention Zamfir, master of the pan flute)?

Remember what it was like typing on a typewriter.
Or typing a story on a typewriter with codes for a scanner.

    ... Remember flying Eastern Airlines.

... or North Central (later Republic) Airlines ... or Ozark Airlines ... or Hughes AirWest.

North Central had the flying mallard logo on its tail. Republic was eventually swallowed up by Northwest (which was called Northwest Orient) and the logistics were so bad that for a couple of years flying Northwest was a nightmare. Thankfully it's much better now.

EDIT: Upon further research, here's something I never would have guessed: When North Central and Hughes Airwest merged to form Republic, Republic became the largest airline in the US based on markets served.

.....remember that awful one-on-one tournament they used to run at halftime of NBA games. (Apologies if this has been mentioned before; it just hit me last night for some reason.)

The line remains one of the great ones, for casual conversation, for people of a certain age . . .
