Your All-Star starting pitchers

starting the all-star game is pretty much a non-starter, isn't it? all it means is that instead of going one (or fewer) inning like the other pitchers, you might go two or three innings. big deal.

it's kind of like being no. 1 on an NFL depth chart - except at the skill positions. everyone makes a huge deal about who starts, but with so many substitutions, the starter probably plays 10 more plays than the backup.

Very true, leo. They just get the first two innings. And I don't think either of them will even be eligible to get the win (unless the All Star game doesn't have the five inning rule).

You've got to know when to hold em,
    Know when to fold em,
    Know when to walk away,
Know when not to watch the all-star game

whopee. that's the kind of thing that goes in your obituary. "kenny rogers, a 210-game winner from 19xx-2007, died today. rogers, a four-time all-star who won the 2006 midsummer classic, blah blah blah..."

it hardly makes rogers a better pitcher than HOFers who never won an all-star game.

And Roid Rogers is raging tonight
    Returning to our silver screen
Major league pitchers who never grow old
Steroid-stoked heroes whose stories were told
Video cameramen, run for your lives,
Central Division teams, lock up your wives,
Turn on the T.V., shut out the lights
    Roid Rogers is raging tonight

    A bit of a minor thread-jack....

Liriano will be replacing Jose Contreras on the AL All-Star roster.
