Singer friends of mine just had their first kid. Dad's American, Mom's Canadian and kid was born in Helsinki. Baby Jack just won the nationality sweepstakes!

I swear, I just read that as "swinger" friends and wondered about the provenance on that kid.

You ever have any reason to get to Patrick AFB for your work? I have family on the Space Coast and when we visit we always hang on the beaches on the base rather than the touristy beaches a couple miles in either direction.

I've seen more beautiful beaches and water but it is just such a happy place.

Unfortunately, I'll likely not have the chance to get to Patrick. Sounds like it might not be a bad spot to hop over after a Disney trip, though ...

Great way to wind down after Disney.

My Father in law has friends who are retired airmen stay at some rental apartments beachside, not sure if active duty can stay there or not.

I live next to the mountains but want to live next to the beach.

Italy has a ton a great little hilltop towns, especially in Tuscany. Cortona may be the best of them. Ancient, beautiful, peaceful. If you've seen Under the Tuscan Sun, that's Cortona.

I've been three times and I can't wait to go back next summer.

I, too, need to travel more. But the 1 from, say, Oxnard through Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach, SLO, Morro Bay, Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey, S.F. and up the Cali coast is tough to beat.

I once drive it the length of Oregon. Beautiful, but cold as shit in August. Made me appreciate the Redneck Riviera.

The towns along the Oregon coast (at least the top half of the state) aren't great, but the views in between are superb and the hiking is maybe my favorite anywhere.

I have to give Crater Lake a shoutout, too. Amazingly peaceful when you get away from the visitor center. And the view is pretty good, too :)

I once drove the Oregon coast (assigned to find the best clam chowder in the state; I could shit through the eye of a needle for a week) and really liked it. Felt like the California coast if it was grittier and had more dairy cows and sand dunes.

I'd love to go to Italy. Have never been. Had a professor who talked about Siena as though it were the promised land. Have never heard of Cortona but just looked at pictures. Doesn't even seem like it could be a real place.
