    1992 Seattle Seahawks.

They scored ~140 points that season and managed a Top 10 defense.

Some of that dropoff was a result of the Bears' extreme QB ineptitude. McNown was a bust; Miller was on the decline; Shane Matthews was a weak backup who ended up starting too often.

Henry Burris and Moses Moreno were names to forget from day one. I think Burris has been a decent CFL QB, though. Canada must be so proud.

Not to sound like oops from the couch here, but I predicted on draft day that William Green would be a bust for the Browns. He started out proving me wrong, but then reality hit.

    Chiefs 1983

7 Kansas City Chiefs Todd Blackledge Quarterback Penn State
34 Kansas City Chiefs Dave Lutz Guard Georgia Tech
61 Kansas City Chiefs Albert Lewis Cornerback Grambling
92 Kansas City Chiefs Ron Wetzel Tight end Arizona State
119 Kansas City Chiefs Jim Arnold Punter Vanderbilt
146 Kansas City Chiefs Ellis Gardner Tackle Georgia Tech
173 Kansas City Chiefs Ken Thomas Running back San Jose State
204 Kansas City Chiefs Irv Eatman Tackle UCLA
231 Kansas City Chiefs Adam Lingner Center Illinois
257 Kansas City Chiefs Mark Shumate Defensive tackle Wisconsin
284 Kansas City Chiefs Dwayne Jackson Defensive end South Carolina State
315 Kansas City Chiefs Ken Jones Tackle Tennessee

I don't know if it's the worst collection of talent or not, there are two Pro Bowlers on the list. Albert Lewis was actually a pretty good third round pick, but the other Pro Bowler was a fucking punter picked in the fifth round.

The reason it stands out is taking Blackledge with the seventh pick ahead of four Hall of Famers, two of them quarterbacks.

Miller was on the decline? When was he good? Actually, 2001 was his best season, but that was mostly the Bears carrying him along for the ride. This is the same guy who won a starting job in Pittsburgh and was so bad they benched him before he finished the first game.

Blackledge over all those other quarterbacks was a mistake, but you can slam plenty of teams for passing on great quarterbacks that year.

Lewis was a very good corner for a long time. Arnold may have only been a punter, but he was a good one. Eatman wasn't a bad player, either, though his best seasons were in the USFL.

Jim Arnold is a great guy.

Can't argue with any of that. That draft just stings a little more because the franchise still has NEVER drafted a decent QB and passed on Marino, Kelly and even Ken O'Brien. Oh well, I'm going to bed. Happy Easter.

He ended up starting a little in 1999 and did well. Then he got nailed for taking diet pills with steroids.

In 2001, the defense carried the load. Miller was hurt about as often as he wasn't.

    OK, my serious answer:

    1992
    Round Player Position University Notes
1 Vardell, Tommy RB Stanford [9th overall]
    2a Browns' choice [36th overall] traded to Dallas, along with Browns' 5th 121st overall round choice, for Cowboys' 2nd 52nd, third 78th, 6th 163rd, 8th 222nd and 12th 329th round choices
2b Rowe, Patrick WR San Diego State [52nd] Choice from Dallas, see 2a above
3a Johnson, Bill DL Michigan State [65th]
3b Dixon, Gerald LB South Carolina [78th] Choice from Dallas, see 2a above
4 Choice traded to Philadelphia for OL Ken Reeves
5 Choice to Dallas, see 2a above
6a Smith, Rico WR Colorado [143rd]choice from Tampa Bay for Browns' 6th and Dallas' 8th round choice, see 2a above
6b Choice to Tampa Bay, see 6a above
7 Jones, Selwyn DB Colorado State [177th]
8a Choice from Dallas to Tampa Bay, see 6a and 2a above
8b Choice to New England for OL Freddie Childress
9 Hill, Tim DB Kansas [233rd]
10 Lowe, Marcus DT Baylor [260th]
11 Olobia, Augustin WR Washington State [289th]
12a McCant, Keithen QB Nebraska [316th]
12b Simpson, Tim OL Illinois [339th] Choice from Dallas, see 2a above

18 possible picks in that draft, of which they used 12, which turned out a total of two guys who started regularly.

Games started by the draft picks:
    27 (Vardell)
    16 (Johnson)
    43 (Dixon)
    8 (Smith)
    2 (Jones)

Most of the others literally have no NFL stats.

Oh, and that second-round pick? Rowe played five games. In his career.
Dallas drafted Jimmy Smith. Even if he never caught a pass for them, still a better pick than anything the Browns did.
