Because a) the coach's comments postgame were off-the-mark and b) it's a team game. You don't condone this kind of crap. Get. Out.

Why does the entire unit get penalized if one player lines up offside?

A team plays with a kid who isn't eligible to play. They should just boot that player and get the benefits of the win because everyone else was eligible?

    No.

There are lines that cannot be crossed and deserve the harshest of punishments to ensure they are never crossed. Your teammate attacks a ref and violates on of the most fundamental tennants of any sport: the game officials are there to enforce fair play and the safety of all players and need to be treated with the highest of respect. You allow that to be undermined by anyone and it all goes away. So I'm sorry for those other kids suffering for the selfishness of one but actions have consequences. The consequences of violating the most basic principles of the game means your entire team suffers. Tough shit. The team isn't one person. Your actions represent the team. The team does not deserve to carry on with a win and enjoy the playoffs.

If the goal of prep sports is to teach character, teamwork and leadership, then hard punishment for the entire team must follow that. If the goal is to win, then boot one player and let the rest continue.

That innocent kid will learn more by losing the chance to play his final game than if he got to play it.

Its ridiculous. You’re basically enforcing RICO on a bunch of high school kids.

Mississippi reached the finish line, and with some great games to boot. Three of the six public school championship games were decided on lead changes in the final minute. In two of them, the winning team scored a touchdown to get within a point and then went for and made the two-point conversion.
Another game had a lead change earlier in the fourth quarter.
The talk now is that as soon as Monday word will come that sports is going back into the timeout chair in the corner until the recent spike in COVID cases subsides.

thunder.jpg Colorado hit the finish line last night. Seven games in three days. I worked the last game (5A final, dreadfully boring 21-0 game).

This was the college stadium it was held at in Pueblo. 75 fans per side. Ridiculous. Could have had five times more fans than that.
