Michigan is set to finish its 11-player state football tournaments this weekend at Ford Field.

However, the state health department has extended its ban on winter contact sports through the middle of February. The folks around my old shop are incensed for obvious reasons. Numerous states around them are now allowing winter sports with masks (itself a subject of intense debate). To some degree, though, I wish someone with the state would have the balls to tell these people "Your house is still on fire. We're not going to let you go back into your house while it is still on fire, and it's not our fault that your house is on fire, and if you don't like it go eff yourself."

High school basketball (everyone must wear masks, even on the court), wrestling, hockey and skiing start Monday. Practices started last week.

Basketball officials are down 40 percent in metro Denver because of the mask mandate.

First time I've heard of high school skiing.

Who has less technical knowledge of their sport: High School skiing coaches, or High School golf coaches?

Out here, golf. Obviously, skiing is pretty big out here. Aspen High School's mascot is the Skiers.
