    Have it your way.

    Fuck off. Rush sucks!

Junkie, since you're about to put me in my message board place and go fuck to Rush, I want you to put yourself in that golden moment when you're about to insert penis into woman.

Put yourself in that place, now imagine Geddy Lee wailing "What you say about his company is WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT SOCIETY! from Tom Sawyer or "... of SALESMEN!" from Spirit Of The Radio or "... closer to the HEAAAART! YEEAH!" from Closer To The Heart or just the uber-dopey chimes from the same song and tell that your dick DOESN'T go limp. It's unpossible.

I didn't even mention the Roll The Bones rap because even you, even in your weakest moment of wanting to shove my Rush hatred up my ass and prove me wrong, wouldn't lift a dick to that. It's like the Monty Python killer joke of songs to fuck to.

Moreover, tell me that your significant other doesn't look at you in your about-to-fuck-face and says, "What the fuck is that shit you have on? Seriously, is that Rush? You expect me to fake an orgasm to that?"

Oh wait. I'm being sanctimonious, pompous and throwing out one-liners again to the person whose every post is so above board and honest none of them could ever be labeled disingenuous. Never. Perish the thought.

P.S. Piotr, my Rolling Stones comparison was dead serious.

  2. Wow, this thread - especially the continuation of the Rush debate - may someday go into my top 10. I'm laughing my ass off.

We were at a gathering a couple of years ago and the concert where Pink Floyd reunited was on. The teenagers enjoyed it as much as the adults.

My son has asked me about the Allan Parsons/Pink Floyd/Wizard of Oz thing, and the reason behind it. I don't know what the answer is. Little help?

So many good memories on here. I'm a little tired to come up with 10 new ones, but I'll go with these three.

    1. The first month or two months of the late night club, back when other posters would message or PM thank yous to some of us for the stupid shit we came up with.

    2. From the romp in the hay thread...

I'm not sure if I could look at a gal who just took a hot beef injection up the exit ramp as a pure and unspoiled flower.

    3. BYH's impression of someone od'ing on Ritalin and Viagra at the same time (search for it), then getting bugged by Doc and responding with "LAY OFF ME GOD DAMNIT I'M MULTITASKING!"

  5. Actually you're right. It's the two distinct styles of arguing that's so amusing. I don't care about Rush.

Saw them 10 years ago play their elaborate poor-man's Pink Floyd concert with the inflatable bunny and was yearning for Primus - the opening act - to come back and kick their asses off the stage with nothing but a bass, guitar and drums.

The Floyd vs. Rush debate is funny, mainly because neither can match the musicianship and talent of the good ole' Grateful Dead.

My top 10. Memories as much as moments ...

    10. Talking open-wheel racing with the few denizens of the board, especially PCLoadLetter, my fellow F1 nut. There's not many of us, but it's nice to have the community here.

    9. The only SJ alter-ego I ever created was Exacto_Knife, the clinically insane troll who was nominally a composing room worker laid off due to obselence. I made up Exacto when I was fearful of logging on to my work laptop as Bubbler while bored on the road in '05.

Exacto was never the same twice, aside from a glockenspiel fixation. One night Exacto had Dooley creeped out because Exacto tried to get Dooley to admit that a glockenspiel was so exhiliarting that it made you feel like you had wind blowing through the button holes on a half-open shirt. Another night, Exacto railed against SJ's profanity, only to have Shottie (I think) post an earlier expletive-laden Exacto quote. It was good fun for a bit, but got old, and I deleted Exacto after about a month.

    8. The one time I was really slammed board-wide was when I posted that George Bush should resign in the wake of mishandling the Katrina disaster. I even got a DTGDTN now! from Mizzou! The badge of honor! I doubt that post is still among the SJ living, but I still believe what I wrote.

    7. The "regular" guys of SJ. I'm a fucking clown. I could post 100 serious posts on the journalism board (as I'm sure I have) and never live down Get A Fucking Haircut or the Wal-Mart thread. That's fine, I made my own bed. But it's guys like Oz, Dooley Womack, Shotglass, Moddy, Idaho, et al, who really form the backbone of the board with their measured, generally non-confrontational, thought-provoking posts.

    6. The Thanksgiving thread '05. Nearly every great poster on SJ at their best at some point in 21's yearly hilarity. I thought it synthesized the greatness of the board better than any other post.

    5. The level of discourse here. Sure much of it is inane, crazy, infuriating and often wrapped up in everyone's individual agendas. But you're never going to find another site that not only challenges you intellectually, but also challenges your writing. Those who do well here can bring it. In its way, SJ is to message boards as Esquire (Hi Jones!) is to magazine writing. Many of us define the message board form, such as it is, meaning none of us are going to get rich mastering it.

    4. Bringing my brother -- Ronnie "Z-Man" Barzell, the former Choo Choo The Herky Jerky Dancer -- aboard. He posts almost exclusively here on music and Wisconsin-related topics and he'd be the last guy I'd suspect would make a total clown out of himself on here as I do, though he's totally capable if he wanted to. He reminds me of Pantangeli's brother from Godfather II, he could make it big here, but he loves doing his own thing. I'm glad he's here even if he's not here much. The man can write his ass off.

A close second is the time I convinced my wife, who views SJ's affect on my maturity with utter disdain, to post on a thread regarding women's health issues.

    3. The night crew, circa '05. SJ undeniably has its cliques and it's a shame the night crew clique from back then rarely spars together anymore. I loved trading posts and PMs with IJAG, Tron, BYH, Oz, Dooley, Hoops, OTR, Starman, Carrie, Junkie, Pope Dirk Benedict and others back then. We all trusted each other to post some crazy shit -- I seem to recall a quasi-risque late night post about a Texas Stadium hot tub with Carrie and IJAG. That wouldn't fly with most of the folks on here, because a lot of the folks here would abuse it.

    2. Meeting Moddy and OTR on a mini-outing about a year ago. Great guys both and so far it has been my only chance to meet anyone specifically from SJ.

I regret that, I really do. I wish I could meet many more of you, but my work schedule and family life really don't allow it. I'm too aloof with PMs (I'm probably the least prolific PMer among the regulars here) and don't really give myself a chance to know many of you. IJAG has been trying to get me on AIM, but I'm such a technical moron I still haven't correctly set it up.

I consider most of you my friends. And I'm not the greatest reciprocator of that friendship. I apologize for that.

    1. All of the board support I got when I lost my two children to miscarriages (of a sort, too complicated to explain what techincally happened here) in '05.

I still have every PM that was sent and I still read them from time to time. I will never forget what Idaho and IJAG did to encourage contributions to the Incontientia Pigmenti International Foundation, the rare disease that was the cause of death. Any bullshit I've dealt with on SJ (and it hasn't been much) is worth it for the kindness I was shown at the time. Thanks to everyone.

You might be the funniest poster here ... but you're not a clown. We've got more than our fair share of them, but you're definitely not on that list.

I can't come up with a top 10 because so much of what happens here blurs together for me. Some of Bubbler's threads would definitely be in my top five.

The prolonged joy of the Kansas "ack" thread was outstanding, but nothing tops the Antarctica Holiday Inn madness. It was over in a couple of hours, but it was some of the funniest stuff this place has ever seen.

the night of the potty mouth at kansas thread was my favorite. I was pretty new at my current paper at the time and didn't really have much to do with myself, so that was a night's worth of entertainment when I could really use it...I don't read or post here nearly as often anymore, but that was a much-needed source of amusement at the time -- particularly with so many funny people just killing time trying to make each other laugh. It might be easy to overlook how valuable this site is, just as a forum for people to log onto at any hour and have someone to talk to, but that may be its greatest reason for being. Our jobs can be mighty lonely at times.

It also helped that there was this ridiculously long, ridiculous in general, thread the next day that nobody who wasn't witness to it knew what to make of it the next day.

Actually, it wouldn't fly because the Texas Stadium hot tub is reserved for only me and Tony Romo.

(For those worried about the state of my impending marriage due to my trysts with Tony Romo, have no fear. It's OK. He's on my "list". )
