Tom Petty nuked?

    When did that happen?

I just finished reading this - FileNotFound, if you're still around, thank you for your kind words. It got a bit dusty in here.

There's a lot of names that have come and gone that are really missed ... even some of the trolls.

You kind of define this place by when you joined it. I came on for good in '04 when it had a small, but by then well-established, group of posters. I'm an old man here now, many of those who define the board now are newbies by my standard.

Though 16K+ posts seems like a waste of time, and no doubt, probably 95 percent of them were, I am definitely richer for having been here.

Few express it, because its corny to do so, but this board has meant a ton to me over the five years I've been here. Pretty much every range of emotion has been spent here by me and I've been lucky enough to do things I'd have never done otherwise ... like participate in the SJ novel.

And yeah, I've been a dick to some people too and said and did things I definitely regret, but those things are outweighed by the many friends I've made here, many of whom I'll never meet, which is unfortunate, but whom are friends just the same.

I love the board the way it is right now too ... and I think it's important to say it in the open. Many have recently left, many of whom I respect and am still very fond of who left for reasons I'm in no position to sit here and judge. On the other hand, the departure of others -- who added little other than a crushing volume of posts devoid of anything other than shout-outs, groupthink and bullshit -- has taken this board back to the way I liked it in my first year or two.

What some of them don't or won't have the perspective to understand is that stupidity, piss and vinegar have always been a part of SJ, and yeah, so have the cliques. But at its best, this place does everything it does with a sense of intelligence, humor and panache, if that makes any sense, that is matchless in any other board I've read or posted on.

And this place has never been anything but fair to me, and though I don't go out of my way to be confrontational or start bullshit, it's not as if I've spent 16K posts quoting fucking hymns or something.

I belong here and I'm proud to be here. Many of the moments listed in this thread are indeed classics, but I'm sure for all of us, there's other moments long forgotten that were classic in their way too. Anyday can be a classic here ... it's why I love it.

Could not have been said better. Some days I feel like I'm wasting my day here. But the truth is, I'm with dozens of people who have gone through, are going through or will go through exactly the same things I've gone through professionally. We have a common bond.

Me? I love politics. I love debating politics and I see it very much similar to sports. Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. Unlike many, I can take a political argument for what it is -- just politics -- and let it roll off my back and not take it personally. Yes, we're trying to get the better of each other. But I'd never leave this place simply because of something that happens on the politics board. That being said, it's an outlet that is fun and entertaining and I hope it also leads to those who participate in the Politics board being better informed on both sides of issues.

That being said, the other boards on his place are great for many other reasons. This thread reminds me of so many of them. And it was just tonight that I totally enjoyed a post by waterytart on the July 13 thread. Hearing great stories like that make this place a goldmine.

What a great trip down memory lane!

Interesting to see so many posts by "imjustagirl2" even though it clearly states under the avatar....

Tony calling for people to be more informed on the politics board might be the funniest thing evar, except for Drip picking the boots thread.

I believe the "Ever pay for it on the road?" thread was on a previous version of the board.

    Now, those were the days.

It's funny because when I read through some of these moments, I realize I was a lurker for far too long. I remember laughing so hard at the Pickle Juice thread and many others but for some reason, just never registered. Since my arrival almost a year ago, I have reaped many benefits from this site. I truly enjoyed all the fun that ensued from my Love on the Internets thread and all the great PMs from it. And I, too, enjoy the sparring on the politics threads. I've learned a lot and really am able to let it go without getting too nasty. Thanks to everyone who contributes to these boards.

Most of the best moments came when Clubber was still around.

From a sentimental standpoint, the McKenzie thread was an all-timer.

No offense to HB, but that is far and away the funniest post in board history.
