Youth soccer referee dies after attack

Seeing the abuse refs take at the highest level, I can only imagine that every half-assed player in soccer (from 6-60) figures it's "part of the game."

 

The proof is that you're still here. If you were a shitty repairman, you'd be dead.

 

Dude, what the fuck are you guys talking about? I came on here looking for this story (of the soccer referee in Michigan) to vent a little bit about how much it bothers me, and it's the same old shit between the same old people. This site is getting downright unbearable.

 

The ref - a father of two who loved the game - died, and you're making fun of him? Really? He was sucker punched and stopped breathing. He wasn't taken to the closest hospital - they took him to a trauma center in Detroit, where he died.

So, a father of two is dead. A father of four is likely going to be imprisoned for the rest of his life because of his stupidity in an adult rec game. And you guys are making light of it?

Gator is right - this site has gone to hell in a handbasket.

 

What YF edits out, not surprisingly, is this story, from years ago, mentioned this ref was sent to hospital on multiple occasions by fans.

I'm still waiting for the numerous links about refs who get beaten over and over.

But, YF, just trolls posts from years ago.

I blew a whistle for a bout a decade for basketball, soccer and baseball. I never saw a ref get punched out and I never saw one get punched out in the decade or so I covered sports.

It's not a common occurrence. When parents get aggressive is when a ref loses control of the game by making bad calls. Then they lose control of the coaches, players and then the fans.

A lot has to happen and go wrong for a game to reach the level of fans beating refs.
