    JD: Correct.

Pope, I have no doubt she'd be happier at the better school. It's more "family like." It offers more. It's a big school, so there are all kinds of people from snobs to Mother Teresa-types.

Lee, she does play the violin for fun. She's not good enough at it to do it as a career. She's actually interested in a business major. Naturally, the "Michigan" has a better business program than the "State."

Breaking News: She and her mom will visit the "Michigan" for the breakfast and tour in a few weeks. The "State" does not offer such a wooing tour, so she won't be able to visit "State" with her mom... and probably won't go up to "State" before she makes her final decision.

I'll reserve judgment until rivals.com checks in on this.

A thought occurs: Why not take her to "State" for an unofficial tour? That way it doesn't look like you're shoving "Michigan" down her throat and makes you the understanding and tolerant aunt, plus it give her a chance to point out what she likes about "State" specifically, which you can contemplate and/or refute from there.

Scout has her as a 4-star recruit. No word on rivals.

Lugnuts, I meant that if she chose to keep playing in college, there could be some scholarship money available.

If it's me and mine, I make it a moral imperative that my child or relative goes to the better university. That probably sounds snotty but I don't give a shit. The choices kids makes between the ages of 16 and 22 are the most important they'll make in their whole lives, and this is one of the big ones.

Meat: If I were a good aunt, I'd do that. ;D But I have no desire to sing the virtues of that school.

Lee: That's sort of what I think, too, but the past few days, I've just had this feeling she's going to pick the better school. She's a smart kid. She says she'll make her decision in March (even though she has until May - hey - I don't begin to understand type-A people.) I'll let you guys know what happens.

    Lugnuts,

I don't think you're playing stage aunt at all. I think you understand the options, have generously opened your heart to assist, and are doing what you can. You want better for someone you love. It's natural and revealing of your love and character.

You've already laid out her interest in "State;" it relates to the people around her. How she sees them, how she sees herself. It also sounds like she's been conditioned after the death of her dad to make decisions based on accomodating others. It could explain why she wants to go where her best friend is going, and not go where the snobby kids go...it fits into her idea of compassion.

Truth is, she belongs at the school whose education matches her drive, and that sounds like the school of which your husband is an alum.

I hadn't thought of it in those terms - you're very perceptive.

We just got the call from my niece.

She chose the good school!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D We're thrilled!

We said NOTHING to her, except that we support her. She made up her own mind. You all were right!

    Thanks everybody!
