Cam Newton thinks female reporter talking routes is 'funny'

I sure as heck hope a NFL beat writer is making more than 70 K.

There's no way in heck she is making $70K. Even $55K would be a little surprising. The Observer is a McClatchy paper, and McClatchy has been cutting jobs aggressively and is in full-on survival mode.

Is it correct she has been at The Observer for about three years? That would be a factor in her salary. Where did she go to college? If she went to Northwestern, that would likely figure into her salary.

Are you one of those people?
No, I'm a hack. My earlier approach was pissy. My mistake.

But I've worked at a handful of big publications over the years and alongside some of the best -- names you'd know. Most of them weren't on an NFL beat two years out of college, so I have to chuckle when I tead about the year-long slog she went through to get the job she now has. It often takes a ton of talent and at least a few years of grinding after college.

If you're in your 20s and covering the NFL, you're probably not making great money unless you're on a national TV broadcast.

It's a young person's game. Long hours, erratic hours, paid in fun and travel.
