Bleacher Report co-founder responds to Leitch

In the comments section, he calls all interviews with a player or coach "useless." Yes, a lot are, but you can get insightful stuff by asking the right questions and talking to a variety of different people. It's called doing your job.

Multiple deaths, including children, at Connecticut school shooting

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/05/gun-control-in-australia/ I've seen some people post this - including a friend of mine who is a cop. It's sad how people on both sides of the issue are rampantly posting stuff that is either altered or just a flat out lie.

barry horn on ed werder's daughter

A non-sports person used to always end roundups or briefs by saying "Podunk will play again Tuesday at 7 p.m., according to the state athletic website."

Worshipful coverage of the U.S. military

I wrote a story on an event for military kids with a parent deployed overseas. The organizer (who had no military connections) was about about as vocal and flag waving as they come. I spoke to a family who's husband/father was overseas and they were very nonchalant about it - basically, they...

    Press box horror stories

This is from my intern days, and more of a newsroom horror story, but I digress. It's crunch time Friday night and the phones are ringing off the hook. For whatever reason, the paper's "big-time" sports columnist is sitting in the part-time/intern section watching some game on TV. While...

    Problems at Patch.com

Saw the original post on another area Patch site. Not sure if this is the regional editor's doing, or if it comes from higher up, but it sure explains why they don't need stringers any more. EDIT: Just read the Romenesko link. Ouch.

    Problems at Patch.com

Found this dandy posted on one of the local Patch sites. The same group of Patch sites that dropped sports coverage out of the blue with little or no notice to their stringers. If your derrière is permanently affixed to a bleacher seat at just about every sports game played in Shelbyville and...

    your inviolable rules of writing

I try to get both sides if I can, but when the clock is ticking, sometimes you just gotta run with what you got and go with it.

    your inviolable rules of writing

File cleanly and on time. Don't say something in ten words when you can say it in five. The copy editing I've done hasn't been on deadline, but this drives me crazy. My peeve is "would go on to" i.e.... Player X opened the scoring in the first and would go on to find the net three more times.

    Pressbox deadlines

fair enough. I actually had never met the coach before, but when I spoke to him on the phone for prior stuff, I had mentioned the connection and he brought it up during the interview. It maybe dragged it out another few minutes. Could I have been quicker? Definitely, but if you wanna get out of...

The great Bleacher Report site to be bought for 200 million!!!

The dingy loveseat in your parent's basement isn't a real stickler for credential requirements.

    Pressbox deadlines

I mostly do AHL/college hockey. Usually I'm walking out while the cleaning crew is in the midst of their work. As far as I know, I've only drawn the ire of the resident PR guy once, and I only found this out after the fact by seeing a conversation he had on Twitter with one of his buddies...

PT intern copy editors, Bleacher Report, Inc.

It's going on four years since I took it.. sifting back through my emails they were actually pretty good at communicating and getting me set up. Basically, I was expected to put in 12 hours per week in scheduled increments and edit 30-40 articles. They wanted you to leave feedback- and that...

Ugh. I stupidly took one of these in college for a bit. If you wanna wade through trash get a a job at the local dump. At least they pay.
