    Panthers tracks

We went with "Panthers tracks." Came to the same conclusion you did. Thanks.

    Panthers tracks

Try Guinness in a can. You might be surprised.

    Panthers tracks

Wondering if "Panthers tracks" as a newspaper hed should be that or "Panthers' tracks" with an apostrophe -- at least that was the main discussion.

    Panthers tracks

HAHAHA. That's funny. Anthropomorphically accurate ... yes.

    Panthers tracks

Panthers hunt is a lot less ambiguous too, PaperDoll. I like that. Thank you.

    Panthers tracks

What say you guys on this hed: Panthers tracks I think it should be Panthers track, because it's about them tracking down free agents. But it could be Panthers tracks, as in they're leaving tracks while searching for free agents. We can all agree the hed is lacking. But then so was space...

Young reporter looking for critiques, criticism, advice on first sports narrative

Well, I read the whole thing. Great job. If you have the gumption to revisit the trio ten years from now and write a follow-up, you'll probably win a Pulitzer. However, I did find this one typo. <<Wiley told the players that they if they played as sloppily against Bolles as they did the first...

    Verb agreement with team names

I'm with you, Gremlin. Whenever I can get rid of possessive apostrophes, I call it a win.

    Verb agreement with team names

One thing's clear — I've definitely come to the right place. Thanks, guys.

    Verb agreement with team names

Sorry I keep referring to Reformed Hack as TampaTribune, but I'll catch on eventually.

    Verb agreement with team names

Appreciate the feedback here, Southwinds and Tampa Tribune. I agree, Southwinds. Posey isn't a Giant, he's the Giants catcher.

    Verb agreement with team names

I agree with your Wildcats example, Tampa Tribune. Giants baseball manager, not Giant baseball manager. But "Giants baseball starts new season" —that would be singular. Consistency should be the key, but if ESPN can get AP style right, why not print guys?

    Verb agreement with team names

Just to make sure. All teams should be regarded as plural, right? Giants win, Harvard Crimson win, Heat win, Crew win, etc. And constructions like this — SF Giants baseball starts — are singular. (Edited this just now to fix... accidentally wrote plural before. I did mean plural in the first...

    Question about Hockey Hed

Saw this hed the other day: "Jackets lose 2-3 to Bruins in overtime" Although the Jackets are the home team, shouldn't the score always be written from high to low? Like this: "Jackets lose 3-2 to Bruins in overtime"

Hi, I'm new, this is my first post, ergo my first stupid question

Not my hed. It was the kid's. And it wasn't a hed, it was a skybox. But I get the point. Thanks for the responses. HH, that logo you described would have made a better skybox.

Hi, I'm new, this is my first post, ergo my first stupid question

Thanks. It was a skybox. A teaser, not a hed.

Hi, I'm new, this is my first post, ergo my first stupid question

Is it Gators basketball begin new season or Gators basketball begins new season? Or ... Is it Gator basketball begins new season ... I'm 52. A 29-year-old asked me and I said it's Gators basketball begin new season, because teams are inherently plural. That said, my background was collegiate...
