    2025-26 College basketball coaching carousel

Crean's time at Georgia was so awful that he may need to take a local parks and rec coaching job if he wants another shot.

Amazing Athleticism Today by Older Ones

LeBron will hit or get close to 60,000 career NBA minutes by the end of the season. No active player is within 13,000 minutes of his total, while he's still one of the 10 or so best players. Incredible.

    Running 2025 golf thread

All the things that a fairly liberal guy in 2025 would loathe. That's more about Augusta National than the tournament, I suppose, though it's hard to separate the two.

    2024-25 College Basketball Thread

It does seem that Hurley knows he's an asshole and has worked on himself to be somewhat less so (or maybe that's just what he tells reporters doing stories on him). So many coaches in so many sports don't seem to have the self-awareness to know that they're giant dicks who are liked or tolerated...

There is a lot I loathe about the Masters, but its policy banning phones (assuming it's still in place) is one thing I like about the place.

    2024-25 College Basketball Thread

Georgia lost 13 games this season, all to teams that were seeded 10th or better in the tournament, including three games to 1 seeds, two to 2 seeds and one to a 4. The Bulldogs also had wins over a 1 seed, a 2 seed and a 3 seed. That doesn't change the fact that they laid a big egg against...

I saw where Gonzaga has more tourney wins than anyone since 2017, which is both not surprising and pretty incredible.

Things that suck...and one thing that helps when things suck

shirt. May your remaining days be numerous and filled with love and laughs. My sister-in-law, whom I adore, has stage 4 breast cancer, and while overall she's doing OK for now, she's also making the most of every single moment while she feels up to it.

    Barkley Marathons 2025

In about five weeks I'm doing a trail 25K that is going to kick my ass because I haven't made the time to train like I should have (or I've chosen to play tennis instead of running alone). I know the course well which will help, but I'm sure I'll walk at least a third of it. And that's ok, too.

    Barkley Marathons 2025

One of the hardest things I've ever done was the Grouse Grind right outside of Vancouver. It's only two miles (or so), but it's straight up over uneven terrain. It's not a race but they track the times over the summer (when the course is open). Only six men and one woman have ever broken 40...

    Barkley Marathons 2025

I watched the documentary about the Barkley Marathons a few years ago. Fascinating. I've run multiple regular marathons but I can't fathom doing what those men and women do.

A Season Inside is one of my favorites. I've read at least five times. A great, versatile writer. RIP

Why be better ... We can suck like everyone else

I do the leave behind thing when I go on vacation, have been for years. I figure I'm going to pick up a few items on my trip, so I always pack some stuff on its last legs so that my bag essentially breaks even when I head to the airport for home.

Why be better ... We can suck like everyone else

Airlines and everyone have gotten the bags thing all wrong from the beginning. To check a bag should be free: it's out of the way, they can know exactly how much it weighs, it's not holding up boarding or exiting. To carry on, and few things are abused the way the "one carry-on bag" is abused...

About 15 years ago, Fallon went all in on the Chattanooga Mocs when they made the NCAA tourney. Because of the odd nickname, I presume.

    Cooking Tips

I don't really like cheddar to begin with, so I didn't consider adding it. The dish seemed better to me without any cheese (as do more and more dishes these days). It did need some crunch and my fiancee had the great idea of adding some chopped up chipotle cashews that I had. Worked well.

    Cooking Tips

I made this for dinner tonight (minus the cheddar) in my air fryer, with roasted carrots on the side. Outstanding, and with lots of room to refine and make it my own. Been on a big sweet potato kick lately. Loaded Sweet Potatoes With Black Beans and Cheddar Recipe

    Best movie cameo appearance

I'm guessing Ray Charles in The Blues Brothers has been mentioned previously. The scene in the music shop followed by the spectacular song and dance makes for about 10 incredible minutes. Of course, you could say the same for Aretha's scene and song.
