You're right, and I'm surprised Yahoo kept them around as long as it did.

Great Mike Freeman interview on The Big Lead

I would say lying is worse IN ANY INDUSTRY (except maybe truck driving or something.) In fact, I don't think there's any comparison between non-work-related personal legal problems and intentional dishonesty about one's academic credentials.

metal baseball bats benched in NYC?

Just noticed this quote from the article... In other words, believe my anecdotal experiences instead of real data.

metal baseball bats benched in NYC?

There have been a handful of very sad, very unusual tragedies involving metal bats, so it's no surprise that a couple of politicians are flocking to this issue. Wooden bats for every youth league in America would be great...if only they could invent a wooden bat that was cheaper, more durable...

Hipster doofuses (doofi?) ruin everything, part 1,339

I agree. I'm not a wine person (a shock, I know), but Boone's was a good drink-from-the-bottle-and-get-drunk wine in college.

Rooooooodddeeeeeeee! You got some 'splainin to do

I'm no Rudy fan, but this is a dance that all national candidates have to go through. Bill Clinton was at least nominally pro-life as governor of Arkansas. When he became a national candidate, he transitioned to pro-choice.

    Pokey Chatman Resigns....Dead Pelican reports...

It's an 80 percent pay cut if she wants to coach in the WNBA. Don't think it's that.

If 50,000 watts reach 38 states and half of Canada, how much does 1,000 watts reach?

    Pokey Chatman Resigns....Dead Pelican reports...

I think today's Times-Picayune story was written just right...the skepticism seeps through without the reporter actually calling the story B.S.

    Pokey Chatman Resigns....Dead Pelican reports...

The rumors are not exactly new. There are volumes that can be written about women's basketball that will never appear in mainstream publications. EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm not being critical of reporters or the media. Nor am I saying that coach-player relationships are common. Just saying...

(raising hand) No, I don't believe he intended to smack Hansbrough upside the face.

    Ron Borges - Plagiarist?

"We are aware of the complaint and we are looking into it," said Joe Sullivan, Globe assistant managing editor/sports. "Someone pointed it out to me and we are looking into it." http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003553817

Is This A Conflict of Interest?

No, it shouldn't happen, if for no other reason than it APPEARS to be a conflict of interest. That said, I'm always skeptical when people are "convinced" that officials are biased against one school or another -- that goes for any level, but especially higher-level officials.

Think this would ever happen in the States?

The thought is nice, I suppose, but they couldn't come up with a better cause than donating to public employees? I mean, British nurses may very well make crappy salaries. But within the context of world poverty, it seems like a odd "charity."

Cotton Bowl Moving to JerryWorld in 2010

I had heard terrible things about the actual Cotton Bowl stadium, but I didn't think it was bad at all when I covered a recent game there. It had a nice historic feel to it. Press box was a bit cramped, but nothing to complain about. And it's not even in a neighborhood, really. It's in the...
