    sick-out in Fall River?

No pleasing a douchebag, I guess. Got anything to add to the thread?

Should I write it or not?

We have a writer who constantly bases his stories on published info and reports from other media outlets--and he clearly identifies them. Ticks me off to no end. Makes it look like we're some half-assed shopper that's not capable of creating our own work. Come up with something original, don't...

    sick-out in Fall River?

Like I said, Tom: My bad. Thanks for properly rebuking me and pointing out my typing error. Got anything to add to the subject of this thread, Gatehouse?

    sick-out in Fall River?

"BTW - if it's so damned obvious, why would you refer to fall river as fall rivers?" Relax. it was just a typo.

    Basketball rules question

No, that's not a legal shot, and it was disallowed when Bird took it.

    sick-out in Fall River?

    1. How can it NOT affect editorial when staffers are being taken off the pro beats and copy editing is being done by a universal desk? In the case of Brockton, their readers will have to now read writers from Quincy with whom they're not familiar (although some would count that as a blessing)...

    taking notes

--on deadline, I take notes. No deadline, I use my recorder. --I never understand why people still use old tape recorders. The digitals have much better sound quality, are easier to navigate and, of course, don't require tapes that have to be turned over in mid-interview. --I have problems...

Got a job, but I need your help

The heck with the job. You'll be a better, brighter, more well-rounded person if you go to school. You can always get a job. What's the rush? School will open your eyes to other possibilities, as well.

Whose career-altering/ending injury do you remember?

Maybe I should add Drew Bledsoe to the Boston list.

Whose career-altering/ending injury do you remember?

Tons of 'em in Boston. Someone mentioned Pats' Darryl Stingley and BU's Travis Roy (both paralyzed after contact); Sox's Tony C (beanball); Sox's Bryce Florie (line drive to the eye); Sox's Jeff Gray (stroke), the Celts" Reggie Lewis (heart arrythmia) and the Bruins" Normand Leveille...

Cincy to offer unpaid weeks off if employees ask for them

I once worked at a place where our union agreed to mandatory two weeks unpaid leave to save jobs. We were eligible for unemployment.

    Worst lede ever

One more for you, same writer, poor guy: "Another high school football postseason has come and gone, with some new teams and some familiar teams playing on the fields at some new sites and others that have been used before. Now, all of the games are being played on fields with artificial turf...

Gatehouse bought my company. Now what?

Gatehouse is a company that owned dozens of tiny dailies, weeklies and shoppers. Earlier this year it made a big move into New England, buying its largest paper, The Patriot Ledger (65,000), the Brockton Enterprise, Metro West News and numerous weeklies from the Boston Herald. It went public...

    What is the post-game procedure?

Lots of variables here. Depends on the sport. Coach is usually made available first, but not always. Some players talk before showering, some after, some after getting dressed. Scrums always form around stars. Always good idea to find a player who's not involved in a scrum. They know the drill...

    Am I mistaken about this?

I second that. I can't even believe this is an issue.

Using Quotes from Other Media Sources

I hope I'm not off base on this, but if the quotes were given to a group of writers, and you weren't there, then I think it's OK to use them without attribution. If they're exculsive to one organization, then they should be attributed. And I wonder if there's a statute of limitations. If you're...
