40 years ago today

Hmmm. I wonder if it is the 45th anniversary of Earl Weaver on Manager's Corner.

I like to think that the Cubs are playing a nationally televised day game today (albeit on the road), on purpose.

Just sent that video to a friend today. Bill Haller was awesome in that.

A lot people don't remember that it was the top of the first inning, second batter of the game.

It was Lasorda. He blew up many times. There's a treasure trove of his responses.
It's an unpopular opinion, but I think he was kind of a dirtbag, and that whole bleeding Dodger blue shtick was nauseating bullshirt. I don't find anything entertaining or funny about how he abused this reporter for a run of the mill question, not least because he eventually answered it. It's just needlessly abusive. Maybe the reporter shoulda asked him which of his favorite porn stars Kingman reminds him of.

Agreed. It was a young KLAC radio reporter, Paul Olden.

"I was in the front row with my arm extended, holding the microphone, and no one was asking about the main thing from that day: the three home runs by Dave Kingman," Olden said. I just needed a quick sound bite, 10 or 15 seconds, and then get the heck out of there.

"So I sort of innocently asked his opinion of Kingman's performance. A minute and a half later, he's still talking."

What About Those Three Kingman Homers? Oops (Published 2015)

And was constantly played by Jim Healy on his show.

There was the meltdown of Kurt Bevacqua.

And of course he ripped Doug Rau after pulling him from the World Series.

I was standing next to Paul. First MLB game I covered. It was Mother's Day. It wasn't May 1.
