The Press Democrat, a New York Times Company and Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper, has an immediate opening for a full-time seasoned NFL writer to cover the San Francisco 49ers. We are looking for someone to build on the tradition of our 49er beat writers who set the standard for coverage in the San Francisco Bay Area through breaking news, along with expertise and knowledge of the team and the NFL. This is a high profile and highly competitive beat in the San Francisco Bay Area with an established, popular blog to further develop, as well as writing for the website and the newspaper. Skills at developing sources, reporting exclusive news and meeting deadlines are essential.
This position is responsible for:
* Developing and writing timely stories within deadlines and ahead of competing news outlets
* Delivering news and information for print and online platforms
* Cultivating and maintaining news sources and monitor developments in the news
* Identifying photographs, video and graphics to illustrate stories
* Identifying multimedia elements to enhance stories online
* Communicating with and engaging readers; evaluating story tips from the public
* Mastering alternative forms of news delivery, such as Twitter feeds and blog formats
Education/Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
* At least two years experience with a daily newspaper or similar publication
* Multimedia skills a plus.
