Apple Music or Spotify

I may be the last person alive who listens to AM/FM radio (not talk stations), and even then, only in the car.

Does either Apple Music or Spotify have DJs?

No DJs.

It's not a radio service. It's like a massive music collection on your iPhone (or computer, or whatever). Want to listen to "Dark Side of the Moon"? Listen to it, just like you've cued up the CD.

I lost tract of the number of playlists I have on their now. You can create your own (I have Odds and Ends, Broadway, Foo Fighters, Redneck Nightmare, The 50s, etc.), grab some of the ones they make (they do a great job getting playlists up after someone dies) or follow people and grab their playlists. If you "Shazam" a tune, there's a way to instantly add it to a Spotify playlist.

I'm sure Apple Music has many or all of the same features.

I couldn't be happier with the Spotify product, but I retain a subscription to Sirius because my sister-in-law works there and one of the DJs, Christine Stone (classic rewind), have become friends because we stop at the same midtown pub for lunch.

If you've more than just you in your household, a good plan is to trade using your free three months on both services. A year's worth of free music.

I've got to be the last person who doesn't get streaming. Along those lines, this is an old man shaking his fist at the clouds question, but if one of the perks of Spotify is listening to an entire album, couldn't you just call it up on the iTunes you have synced to your phone (or, old man continues shaking his fist at the clouds here, iPod)?

I love Spotify. I do family plan, 4 users, no ads. I make my own playlists but you can just pick a song and have them play a station based on the song (think instantaneous Pandora station)

Example of best use to me, heard that Bruno Mars came out with a new song (I have to get new contemporary music for my hoops run because people tired of my "Old School" playlists with Sugarhill Gang) and immediately found it on spotify without having to buy it. Then immediately found new songs related to it. Amazing.

If you own it, yes. But I don't own every piece of music I'd like to listen to. And I've got a pretty enormous music collection, but very little of it is on my phone.

I have Amazon Prime so I use Amazon Music plus the unlimited upgrade. Could be an option for you.

It seems like Amazon doesn't have a lot of songs. My son likes Rihanna and Nicki Minaj (don't ask), and certain tunes are not available.

It's a fair point. But I'm not using Spotify to listen to a whole album. I've passed the point of listening to 10 songs from the same artist. For me, it's all about putting my favorite, unrelated songs together in one place and having one great song come up right after another, bypassing anything I don't want.

That's just Amazon limiting the damage to your son.

It's a fair point. But I'm not using Spotify to listen to a whole album. I've passed the point of listening to 10 songs from the same artist. For me, it's all about putting my favorite, unrelated songs together in one place and having one great song come up right after another, bypassing anything I don't want.

This makes me sad. The death of the album makes me sad. I still love a curated, thoughtful collection of songs by one artist that put together make a much bigger statement than just one song by itself.
