Changing venues

And Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds were about a half mile apart, too.
If not for the river.

Yankee Stadium, better baseball venue. Polo Grounds, better football venue; the Giants played there for many years before moving over to Yankee Stadium, and the Titans played there until 1964. . Lots of football games played at both stadiums. Some NYC pro and college teams also played at Ebbets Field.

Yankee Stadium hosted a ton of huge boxing matches as well.

In that picture of the two stadiums, what are those other baseball fields adjacent to Yankee Stadium? Were they practice fields for the Yankees? Just random city-owned fields for youth and high school teams? Did colleges play there?
Looks like you could put a ball (fair or foul) on that highway in a couple of spots from those.
