2022-23 offseason changing nicknames thread

Colorado public schools starting June 1 had to drop Native American mascots for face a fine of $25,000 a month. Schools can keep Indians nicknames if they have an agreement with a Tribe to continue to do so. So there are a couple of Indians and Warriors still around, but the Lamar Savages are no more.

At the last minute, the committee singled out a handful of other schools and they have to change their nickname of Thunderbirds by next year or face the fine.

I'm not sure I get GW's move. Someone please explain it to me like I'm in kindergarten with smallpotatoes (just kidding, SP).

Also I never heard of the color "buff" until I covered a GW game.

Official reasoning was it was insensitive to Native Americans. But I'm also guessing it is near impossible to sell much "Colonials" merchandise and they'd like to take advantage of a rebrand.
