Charlie Strong bans local media

Apparently Charlie Strong has banned the local media from covering the team's sessions for the rest of the spring.

In other news, there's a big "Call of Duty" tournament shaping up for the Louisville media contingent.

Anyone know if Louisville's practices were open and that's what the media is being banned from, or is this a ban from all media availability sessions?

Does anyone really care a coach of a second-rate team, at best, closes spring practice?

There were times when I was covering college football that I wished the coach would ban us from watching spring practice ... and fall practice, for that matter.

So this guy is a veteran editor and sportswriter, and he seems incredulous that basketball gets bigger coverage in Kentucky, during the NCAA Tournament, when both teams in state made the Final Four.

For a guy who's supposedly been in the business for awhile, he sure sounds a lot like a clueless fanboy.

Had a coach ban me once. Felt the same way. Ban only lasted a day, though.

The coach of the FCS team I cover has closed practices to everyone all spring ... media, fans, even the in-house media.

It's great. I can't think of anything I hate covering more than spring forking football. Biggest non-story in sports.

Strong is up in arms that the Courier Journal didn't cover Louisville's spring game or whatever when Kentucky and Louisville faced off in the Final Four. And Louisville fans are going apeshirt about it, giving CJ writer Eric Crawford all kinds of heck on Facebook.

Not even a breakdown of all the UK and Louisville football articles during last season was enough to satisfy anyone.

"He (Strong) came to Louisville from Florida where football never ever takes a back seat to basketball. There are only four states in the union where that could happen — Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas and North Carolina — states that have never enjoyed much success in football."
— Charlie Springer

He said it in his story that his state doesn't have success in football. So, what's there to bench about. Plus, both schools made the Final Four. Here's to another 5-6 season at Louisville.
