China, calling out to history

China imports something like 70 percent of the oil it needs. A blockade would shut its economy down hard.

A blockade could easily be considered an act of war against China. You don't want to go there without trying virtually everything you can think of first.

Well in this scenario, China has already attacked Taiwan. I feel like the "act of war" line would have already been crossed.

Sure, in that case it's a non-factor. If it goes that way they're in the same place Japan was in WW2. They'd need to capture (and hold) sources of oil they could control or strangle for lack of fuel.

Like, most of South Asia? The islands they've been building there for years are heavily fortified and likely with that contingency in mind.

US Navy admiral predicts a "hellscape" of drones above and beneath the sea will await China when it invades Taiwan before the decade is out.
