Cool science stuff

Apophis won't be close enough for most of us to see.

There is talk of a landing, maybe putting people on it, when it comes back.

In a related note, chances of Apophis hitting Earth in 2036 have been downgraded. New information about it's orbit made the possibility much less likely.
But still possible.

In an unrelated note, possible evidence that language learning beings in utero:

Not sure I believe it, but interesting.

Noam Chomsky approves.

You can watch the Apophis footage from the Canary Islands observatory from an hour ago.

Warning, this is not a real compelling show.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson sells it so much better.

Remember our discussion about a magnetic storm contributing to the rapid global warming? That was a good one.

Remember when I ran into that Black Hole scientist and asked him if time travel was possible, and he told me it had already happened?

Good times!

I'm really into psychology and the brain lately. Is the brain elastic or isn't it? Does it come pre-wired, or can we re-wire?

I love that DeGrasse Tyson.

The gravitational keyhole for the 2029 passage is only slightly bigger than asteroid itself, which is about 300 meters.

Odds of Apophis hitting Earth in 2036 = 1 in 250,000.

I thought we were talking about the shifting magentic poles and the effect on climate.

Also, there reports out of CERN last year of neutrinos traveling faster than the speed of light. Meets one of the possible requirements for time travel.
Problem - neutrinos don't really interact with matter in any real noticeable way. So if we could send a neutrino back in time, would anybody notice?

Right... Same discussion. Just before the magnetic poles reverse, there's a 'storm' in which the Earth's magnetic field (which protects it from the sun) goes wonky. Are we in the early stages of that storm?

After the poles reverse, the magnetic field is at its strongest. So we're in for another Ice Age at that point.

On the time travel, this guy told me a person had traveled one second into the future. I'd have to look up what he was talking about, but I believe there was a plane or rocket involved.

His point was, if you can travel 1 second into the future, why not 10 years?

He did not believe traveling back in time was realistically possible. :(

Ooops...

"energy transition caused the temperature of the gas to drop "a few billionths of a Kelvin below absolute zero"."

Superluminal neutrinos? Notsomuch.

Also, if time travel is possible and people in the future are doing it, where the heck are they? Stephen Hawking threw a party for them and everything!
