Detroit Daily Press hiatus

no, circulation issues weren't all to blame. sounds to me like bad business plan/management is to blame. i wonder if those checks ever came.

One of the workers posts on this board and said they had received at least one check.

When they first announced the launch of the paper, and said they had enough money for a month or two, I knew they were going to be in trouble.

In keeping with the dual topic in this thread, I'm also sorry Ann Arbor's local paper is gone.

As for DDP: I did receive two checks -- but learned this week that freelancers have not been (and will not likely be) paid.

I took a break from my efforts to stay in this biz (made suddenly more challenging by the layoff of 65 folks from the Grand Rapids Press and boy I feel for them, too), freelancing and considering what's next, I watched a pretty cool older flick, startup.com which has a number of very interesting parallels to my experience at DDP.

I wish E&P were still publishing, I would so pitch a first-person piece on this ... and props to them for banding together while "awaitng possible revival."
