Fox News Channel to try "Daily Show" type show

Here's one point that no one has brought up -- is it really a good idea for a news network to get into the political satire business? If Fox wanted to do this on its broadcast channel or F/X or whatever, it would be OK...but the fact that this will be rubbing up against its news programming makes it kind of different. You worry about people confusing the two

You are confusing Fox with an actual news channel. While it does broadcast some news, its main focus is the support of the Republican party. This "comedy" show should fit nicely on a channel that runs crawls saying "How Did Dems Win With No Iraq Plan?" on their "news" programs.

For what it's worth, this first got reported many, many months ago and Laura Ingram is said to have hosted the tryout. Apparently it was incredibly atrocious. Unless this is Fox tinkering around a bit and trying the same concept over again.

And even if Stewart leans hard to the left, it ain't like he's ever been afraid to make fun of Democrats. I don't for a second believe that Fox will let their parody do anything close to that, unless it's someone akin to Mark Foley or Duke Cunningham. And even then....

I was thinking the exact same thing... I've seen Miller in concert twice in recent years and he's still as funny as ever... Plus, there's no way he's any more conservative than Jon Stewart is liberal...

Define "recent years" -- after 9/11, Miller completely fell under the spell of Bush, and in the process, somehow lost his ability to be remotely funny. His act became little more than an indignant defense of the president. Needless to say, that doesn't lend itself to quality comedy.

Given the way that Matt Stone and Trey Parker have incorporated more political material into their work in recent years, I'd guess they might be willing to do a Daily Show-type program with a more right-wing bent. I'm not sure the Fox News audience would go for their brand of conservatism, but it would be pretty damn funny.

Yeah, the idea of doing a show like that and getting Laura Ingham to host it....talk about giving it no chance to be funny. Get a comedian who is a centrist or a little right-of-center (Drew Carey, Lewis Black) Actually, what Fox ought to do is just keep sending dump trucks full of $100 bills to Stephen Colbert's house until he screams "Uncle!"
