An item in Variety today reports that Adrien Brody has been cast as Pat Riley in an upcoming HBO docudrama series on the Showtime Lakers of the '80s. What made the story for me as that Solomon Hughes already has been cast as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. How the heck are they gonna do that? Not even Brando's Method could make a normal size actor 7 foot-3. I dig that they'll just use old video for the games, but what about all the other scenes. How is Hughes going to be made into a giant without the whole thing looking ridiculous. Why didn't they just get Kareem to play himself? Just dye his hair a little. After all, he already has a hit movie credit.

There was a drama about Hank Gathers and the LMU basketball team many years ago. They used 8-foot baskets when they filmed it, but it still looked weird when they were dunking.

I remember that. Either the actor who played Gathers or Bo Kimble looked like he weighed 3 bills.

"Final Shot: The Hank Gathers Story." You're right about the guy who played Kimble. It was Duane Davis, who is the son of Willie Davis (the Packer, not the Dodger). He played football at Missouri. Listed at 6-4, Kimble was 6-5, I think, but body mass was quite different. I never heard of the guy who played Gathers. His name is Victor Love. Not familiar with him, but his IMDB page lists lots of credits, including 4 episodes of "The West Wing."
