I want a dog

We're a little over four weeks with Finley, Finn, Finneas, Mr. Fintastic...and we're so happy.

He still loves his neighborhood walks, and as a beagle he decides the route everyday. This week, with warm NC winter temps, he's learned he can spend so much time in his fenced backyard, and has figured out it can be fun to chase a tennis ball and, for a while, never give it back. He sleeps through every night, our walks first thing around sunrise everyday have rejuvenated me, and we've learned he loves to look out a window, especially a large upstairs window in our new house. Bought him a bench that rests right at the windowsill, and that's where he stays when we leave. When we come home and hit the garage door, we look up from the driveway and see this perfect little beagle head pop up in the window, and he meets us at the door.

Get a dog, and love a dog.

That is fantastic to hear!! I can almost picture him on his bench as you look up....almost brought a tear to me.

The morning walk, though at times I'd rather sleep, is invigorating.

Beagles are the absolute best. The ones we've had have been the absolute most stubborn, hard-headed creatures of all time.

But they would have died to protect anyone in our family. The level of loyalty is absolutely inspiring.

Please keep the updates coming, UNCGrad. They are a bright ray of sunshine that is needed these days.

Yeah, beagles are great ... when they're yours.

But at one stop, my neighbors had a beagle, nice enough dog, but it barked nonstop every time a flea farted.

I worked crazy newsroom nights and slept in, so the the constant barking was maddening. Man, it was 24/7.

Yeah I've always thought they were yappers.

We've had beagles that were vocal (though not over-the-top) and ones that didn't make a peep - those were rescue dogs who we think were beaten whenever they did speak up. Makes me sad to think about it.

Medium size compared to what? A Great Dane or Cujo or CliffordTheBigRedDog?
I had a German Shepherd as a teen and into a couple of years after college. I consider a German Shepherd a medium-size dog. I've seen dogs you can practically put a saddle on.
