Is this really "new" news, though? Or shall I ask, are we truly surprised?

Singleton is known for this kinda crap.
 
I think it falls into the "not surprised" category. Same stuff he did in Southern California. And elsewhere.

The proposal gives him authority to make big-time cuts anyway, any time he wants.

I feel sorry for the people at the Merc. And I bet the people in Santa Cruz are going to church every day, praying Singleton doesn't buy them.
 
Romenesko linked to a story today that Dean is going after the Tribune Co. papers in Allentown, Pa., and Connecticut.

you been to santa cruz? i don't think there's a church for 100 sqare miles.
