Well, that's another nasty sign in North Carolina.
-McClatchy is cutting down in Raleigh and Charlotte again.
-Paxton has its nasty little claws and has slashed Durham beyond bare. Never mind that Paxton will make Henderson, Sanford and High Point even leaner.
-Media General cut a good man in Joe Menzer among others in Winston-Salem, and is claiming it might take hundreds more job throughout the chain. That means Hickory, Reidsville, Eden, Statesville and probably Winston-Salem should continue to look over their shoulders.
-The Gannett announcement of wanting 1,000 scalps won't help Asheville.
-Cox is threatening to sell Greenville, Rocky Mount and Elizabeth City.
-Lexington cut one day a week in publication, down to six. If NYT is laying off at other papers further south, just how long can Wilmington, Hendersonville and Lexington go without being hit?
-Landmark has already cut in Greensboro.
-Fayetteville sent Brett Friedlander away rudely and probably isn't done yet.
-Heartland completely mutilated Mount Airy, and will almost ensure its other properties will never improve. See also: CNHI.
-Freedom hasn't slashed anyone yet, but the ENC cluster consolidated desk operations in Jacksonville.
-The family publications - Dunn, Wilson and Goldsboro - might be OK for now, but for how long?
Yeah ... bright picture.
