NFL Media lays off 132 staffers

The story says many took mandatory and voluntary pay cuts during the pandemic, only to get the gaspipe in the end.

The NFL sucks, from kicking tee to toilet paper core.

For all the money tossed at the league's feet, I'd say 90 percent of off-field personnel are paid below market-rate for what they do for the "honor" of saying they work for the NFL. Shoot, the league still uses unpaid interns and barely-paid staffers for training camp. It's a joke. They make newspapers look generous. Honestly, $50 bucks a game and two tickets to compensate the cheerleaders? Who probably spend a couple hours a week rehearsing in addition to three hours or so on Sundays.

UPDATE 7/16/21: The NFL provided a statement to PFT on Thursday night regarding the layoffs. The league calls the numbers circulating on social media "wildly inaccurate," and describes the situation as "not markedly different" from layoffs in prior offseasons.

Oh, OK. So offseason layoffs are a regular occurrence for a league that's swimming in cash.

Remember what a fiasco the NFL officials strike was? One of the major points of contention is that the owners wanted to get rid of the officials pension plan. which had been around since about 1960. My memory is that it cost the league seven million dollars a year or so. But it was explained that it was the "fair" thing to do .

Why? Because the NFL had already eliminated the pension plan for the employees in the league office.
