Just curious, is my "I'll contact you if I can use you" e-mail a rejection of sorts?

No, it's probably more like, "I got your stuff and the stuff of 200 other people, please don't bother me by calling or e-mailing." The rejection comes later.

I think this was covered in a few previous posts. You know there have been at least 10 schmucks that have just kept calling him, which probably facilitated the mass e-mail.

Well, I didn't call, so it wasn't me who burned that bridge. I'd rather he'd be impressed with my work and invite me down. I shouldn't have to blow up his phone.

From what I've heard they got almost 300 applicants, so you probably shouldn't get your panties in a bunch if Lynn hasn't contacted you personally...

One could argue that these Orlando openings may be the most competitive jobs that are actually out there. When most big papers have an opening they have someone in mind or are posting the job because they have to... Nobody casts a wider net than Lynn.

I'm calling bullshirt on that.

That's like the weapons of mass destruction all over again.

Not buying it.

But, then again, I wouldn't have bought their being able to hire someone from outside, when these Trib properties are being stripped to the bone everywhere.

I would love a list of Tribune sports departments and the last time they were allowed to hire from outside.

According to Lynn, he received more than 270 resumes. Pretty close to 300.

The first three words are key.

Lynn can be a smooth talker, but I seriously doubt he's a liar.

We got literally 127 applicants for a prep writer when I was still ASE in Bakersfield. I have no doubt that Lynn could get double that with ease for a job like this. Especially now that it's summer. Most every kid just out of college and then the scores of people that would love working down there will send a packet...it adds up really quick.

Sounds believable to me. Good paper, good area and a time where openings aren't exactly falling out of the sky. Plus I'd like to think that maybe Lynn coming in here generates a little more mail than a posting on another internet board without the give-and-take that we have. But I'm slightly biased :)

All true.

Based on the state of this industry and the Sentinel's history of turning unknowns into stars, I'm surprised it's not 500...
