How difficult is it to understand a basis premise in softball:

THERE IS NO MOUND IN SOFTBALL.

Even Sports Illustrated screws this up.

Its funny you mention this. One of the writers at my shop was telling me he was talking to a local high school softball coach last season and the coach was telling him it's a circle and not a mound. The writer interviewed him a few weeks ago and the coach used mound in a quote.

I always made sure to mention circle and not mound...my old publisher who used to be the SE told me to stop since "it's confusing" to the readers and to use mound.
I left the job before the following softball season, so not sure if that ever got resolved.

your old publisher is an idiot. did he also tell you to mention that they threw overhand from 60-6 just to make sure the readers weren't confused, too?

It's absolutely right. Can't argue the premise one bit.

Also never gave it a thought in 50-plus years until it was stated right there.

It's one of my biggest journalistic pet peeves, I guess because it's my favorite sport.

Glad to find out where the reporter ended up, even if he did deserve to get fired for what happened. Not shocked he's making more money.
