During the opening of NFL free agency, several hacks were busy helping our favorite bartender earn a living and the topic came up of five best NFL writers and five best "up and coming" NFL writers.

Yes, this has been done to death. But need opinions from the board, please. Gracias.

Jay Glazer
Adam Schefter
Chris Mortensen
John Clayton
Peter King

That's about 80 percent of your NFL scoops.

Top 5 NFL writers of all time:

1. Dylon
2. Dylon
3. Dylon
4. Dylon
5. Dylon

Guy spits hot fire, man.

Are we talking "writers" or "reporters"?

If it's the latter (guys who get the scoops), seems like Glazer and Schefter break the majority of the day-to-day stuff.

If it's the former (the ability to craft a compelling narrative), Dr. Z retired that trophy years ago. Yes, I realize he's no longer active.

I'll take Bob McGinn and you can have anyone else you choose.

If we're talking writers, and not just reporters, I'll take McGinn and Gosselin as my 1a and 1b.

Of the national reporters, I go with Glazer, Schefter, Clayton and PK...

Newspaper writers, it's McGinn and Gosselin and no one else is close, IMO...

NFL writers who I read regularly...

1. Matt Barrows
2. Sean Jensen
3. Greg Bedard
4. John McClain
5. Tom Silverstein

Serious question:
Does Glazer write?
I know he reports and tweets, but does he write?

If he writes Glazer tops my list and no one else is even close.
