Per an AP obit, he left Good Times because he felt he was being asked to play a stereotypical black dad role, plus it was becoming a vehicle for Jimmy Walker.This passing has more legs than I expected.
John Amos wasn't typecast as a "Black" actor even in spite of Roots and Good Times, which is positive today but exponential in the 1970s.
