I read something about this elsewhere. Apparently, "Life with Archie" tells stories about possible futures involving the character. That has included getting into what his life would be like if he married Veronica and what it would be if he married Betty. My understanding is that with either path, he ends up dying at the same time in the same way.

Archie stories set in the "present," where he is an eternal teenager, will continue.

"What a great idea!" said the creators of How I Met Your Mother.

Another stupid comics "death" stunt.
As opposed to all those smart ones?

The problem with most of them isn't the death. It is the resurrection.

Captain America's death in the comics was very well done, as was the series that followed with somebody else taking up the mantle in place of Steve Rodgers. Then they had to bring him back.

Your point is a good one overall. I think that's why Marvel's Ultimate line has left Peter Parker dead so long. To this point, they can claim that dead is dead, something most comics can't.

Didn't they give up on that one too?

Not yet, but I'm guessing they will eventually cave and bring back that Peter Parker.

From the Twitter account of "Sugar, Sugar" co-writer Andy Kim:

"Just heard of the upcoming death of Archie Andrews. Feels like there's a death in the family."
