RIP Val Kilmer

A great scene. RIP, Iceman.

I agree, outstanding scene; confusing to me at first, the way he acted after he shot Ringo. Then, I realized Doc's motivation throughout the movie: He didn't want to die peacefully, he want to end it in a gunfight or some other violent means. He actually thought he could take care of business for his buddy and get Ringo to kill him also. His encouraging a wounded Ringo to shoot him as he was stumbling toward his demise, and then being downright pissed when he realized he wouldn't be able to do it was outstanding. Some great lines too: "Poor soul! He was just too high-strung," "The strain was more than he could bear," and after that clip cuts off "My hypocrisy goes only so far."

I really did enjoy Kilmer as an actor, I loved "Top Secret!" (though I didn't rent it 60 times or anything) and "Real Genius" was good too (my dad, who was hardly the target audience, loved it, which surprised the heck out of me).

Ironically, the one role I was really anticipating seeing him in, that of the Caped Crusader in "Batman Forever" was the most disappointing to me. Wasn't all his fault, but he just seemed so stiff and wooden in the role.

However, he had a great run of roles, Iceman was awesome, and I'm glad he got that cameo in "Maverick," and a great showing in "Heat" among many other things. And, of course, Doc Holliday in "Tombstone" was his tour de force. I'll never get sick of watching him in that. RIP.

"Batman Forever" has always been a guilty pleasure for me, but it's because of Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones and some of their scenes together being over the top fun. Val Kilmer has nothing to do with it. In fact, if it weren't for George Clooney I go as far as to say he's the worst Batman of them all.

If "The Doors" had come out 10-15 years later, it would have been one of the most meme-able movies ever made. My brother and I watched it recently. It's ridiculous.

Val Kilmer totally embraced its absurdity which is to his credit. Scenes like this.

Hey! You take that Batman take back, er, Batman?
