RIP George Foreman

Back in the late 1980s a boxing gym opened in my town, among those who trained there was a young Lennox Lewis and a badass Olympic silver medalist named Egerton Marcus. One of the coaches there had fought in the 1968 Olympics for (I think) Kenya. He said when he got to the area where the boxers were being checked in he saw Foreman leaning against a wall waiting for his turn. He said he was huge, nasty and thoroughly unapproachable. He said if he'd been told that Foreman was holding up that wall merely by leaning against it he would have believed it.

And while the Thrilla in Manila will always be the best, most brutal heavyweight championship fight in my eyes, Foreman's fight against Ron Lyle was the wildest, most fun heavyweight fight I've ever seen.

@Huggy , do you remember anything about when he fought five different guys in Maple Leaf Gardens?
