I know that this is in the Super Bowl thread, but I thought it deserved its own. Jerry worked at The Detroit News for a long time and was highly respected. And, he was the only journalist who covered the first 56 Super Bowls (even though the Lions never qualified). He didn't go this year because he was in poor health. He was 94.

I remember Green did a column for either Pro Football Weekly or maybe the Sporting News in the late 60's and 70's. Good columnist. He was far more critical than the typical columnist of the day. Though covering the Lions would do that to a writer.

I remember Joe Falls wrote once wrote that there was never a more pained expression on a man's face than that of Jerry Green when the Lions opened a game running off-tackle for a yard.
