RIP Joe Flaherty

RIP.

So many great characters from SCTV. Big Jim McBob -- "they blowed up real good!" Wheelchair-bound station manager Guy Caballero. They did a memorable parody of the Andy Griffith Show -- with Merv Griffin as Andy -- and he was Barney Fife.

And of course, his Western Union courier in "Back to the Future" and jeering fan in "Happy Gilmore."

I still use "blowed up real good" whenever possible.

RIP. I remember when SCTV was on late Friday nights on NBC (after Carson) and I didn't get to see it much because parents wouldn't let me stay up all night. However, when I did get a chance to watch, I loved it and at the time wished they would put it on Saturday instead of SNL.

I loved Sammy Maudlin and his "Rat Pack" (Go find "Maudlin's Eleven" on YouTube if you haven't seen it before). Also, newsman Floyd Robertson with his partner, Eugene Levy's Earl Camenbert.

And, of course, he also popped up in about a million movies and TV shows I've watched. The courier in "BTTF" and golf heckler in "Happy Gilmore" have been mentioned, but don't forget the Czech border guard in "Stripes."

Anyway, I hope him and John Candy are having a wonderful reunion.
