Don't think I'd done the math to realize how young he was trading blows with imperial phase Bear Bryant. In my mind they were contemporaries but Robinson was in his 40s then, back when powerhouses didn't routinely hand the car keys to young whippersnappers.
 
There's an ongoing debate among USC fans as to the greatest college football team of all-time. It's the 1972 John McKay Trojans or the 1979 John Robinson Trojans. USC was national champion in 1972 and 1978, but most thought the 1979 team was better.

I'd vote for McKay. But Robinson kept it going.
