RIP Sam Moore

I was just recently wondering what kind of royalties he was raking in. "Hold On, I'm Coming" was being used in EVERYTHING and EVERYWHERE in 2024.

A little surprised there wasn't more a response here for Sam. Not surprising he has passed on, obviously, but truly a transcendent performer and voice from that era.

Always liked how much fun he was having with Bruce and the E Street Band at his HOF induction in 2009. The last minute of this, Sam is just enjoying the groove:

I love Sam and Dave. heck, the password to get into my PC is lifted from one of their songs.

Rest, Soul Man.

Add that Booker T. and the MG's were one of the great house bands, along with the Funk Brothers, the Swampers, and the Wrecking Crew.

There's a pretty good Wrecking Crew documentary I watched not too long ago. Wish I could remember where I saw it.

Max or Hulu, I think it's up multiple places. If you have not seen "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", the Oscar winning Doc on the Funk Brothers, you should seek it out. They played on so many songs we know by heart, uncredited.

Another old one that's well worth digging out is "Tom Dowd and the Language of Music". If all Dowd did was act as producer/engineer on "The Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East" and "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" that would make a career, but the guy was involved in soooo many things over the years.

For instance, he built and installed the first four track recorder that Stax ever had, and recorded Otis, Aretha, the Bar-Kays, Booker T. and many more. Wanna see a mind blowing life's work - which does not include the technical side of what he did, just recording, check this out. The stone classics on this list are legion.
