Running RIP thread for musicians who died in 2022

Wow, Kim Simmonds was the heartbeat of Savoy Brown which had a Spinal Tap-like revolving door of members.

Their last studio album, Ain't Done Yet, from 2020, was a perfectly fine British blues album.

If Stillwater isn't the Red Dirt Capital, you can see the cupola from there.

I imagine the schedule will be light during the holidays, but you can probably find some concert anywhere along I-35 between Ponca City (ish) and Dallas on a given night.

Ian Tyson, a Canadian musical icon, has passed away and will forever be known as one of the most famous musicians this country has ever produced. He still maintained his ranch near Longview, Alberta just south of Calgary and I know people who actually know him as a rancher and local dude. I met him and he signed a CD of his at his cafe in Longview where he would hang out occasionally with the locals. Cool guy.
He hung with Dylan et al in ‘62 era of NYC coffee houses and he relates that Dylan told him if he wanted to be successful he should start writing his own stuff, which he did and “Four Strong Winds”, which has been recorded by everybody, was one of his first efforts and “Someday Soon” soon followed which became a smash for Judy Collins and helped both their careers immensely.
He had a successful TV show in the ‘70s on CBC and could always be counted on to do small concerts yearly in Calgary and area. RIP to a real singin’ cowboy.

Tyson said that after he cranked out Four Strong Winds in no time, he figured he could equal it regularly.

Here is my favourite clip, talking with JJW and then playing Summer Wages. A great song about his days in the hard little mill town of Port Alberni.

JJW covered Tyson a few times I believe, Navajo Rug comes to mind.
