ESPN.com senior news editors are the day-to-day front-line managers for ESPN.com's news product. They manage both people and process.

From a news point of view, they are in charge of setting the day's assignments, prioritizing the day's news, and making sure the information being presented is timely and accurate. They are the main liaison to the ESPN TV news desk, ESPN.com's video team, research departments and other groups looking for information. They are also the primary contact for writers in the field first with news tips and questions. They read copy, sign off on major breaking stories, and work to hone the news presentation on the website (as well as creating content for other platforms), focusing on our Page 1 news stack and offerings, as well as major sport page news presentation.

They also have direct reports and are in charge of assigned general, associate and assistant editors. They perform job reviews and work regularly to manage career growth for their direct reports.

*** THIS JOB IS A NIGHT/WEEKEND POSITION. ***

I was never a senior editor, but I worked under/with them. I can answer as much as I can, and will get answers for those things I can't answer myself.

Hey, bucko. A couple hints:

1. When someone posts a link to a job, open it before asking ridiculous questions.
2. Any job title with a "senior" in front of it is generally not going to be an entry level position.

Ask and ye shall receive: Deputy Editor of Grantland!

Yeah, asking if a senior job at ESPN is an entry-level position is a bit of a "DUH!" question. You were about as nice as you could be on it.

Yup, saw those. I check in now and then to see what's out there.

I will say this: If the shift remains the same as the person who left (which I have NO IDEA), this WAS a Wed-Sat shift. It's 11 hours a day (hour for lunch), four days a week. 4 p.m.-3 a.m. It's a bit weird at first, but it's a great schedule. I was there for the worst winter they'd had in a while (at the time) and the cities are so prepared for that shirt, it's not even funny. They plow the parking lots at work, so you're good there too.

Good people on the news desk, good people on the TV desk.

I don't know how much seniors make. But it's enough to live well in CT, which isn't cheap. I was just an associate editor, and I had an $1100 apartment and paid their obscene gas prices. :D
