AD FROM JOURNALISMJOBS.COM:
The News-Dispatch, a daily A.M. newspaper in Northwest Indiana, is seeking a motivated person with a strong sports knowledge base to fill the position of full-time sports writer. A strong applicant will have a love for sports, be motivated to succeed and be able to handle high-pressure deadline situations. Included in the position is a weekly column, at least two nights of page design per week and plenty of high school sports coverage.

A bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent experience is required. Some experience in Quark XPress and/or InDesign is preferred, but not necessary.

The News-Dispatch has a daily circulation of around 12,000 throughout LaPorte and Porter Counties in Indiana and parts of Southwest Michigan. The News-Dispatch is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sex or age.

Those interested can apply by sending a resume with references and clips to: Sports Editor Adam Parkhouse, 121 W. Michigan Blvd, Michigan City, IN, 46360. Applicants may also send resumes via e-mail to aparkhouse@thenewsdispatch.com.

Paxton paper.

On the plus side, there is a casino in Michigan City (plus a brand new one in New Buffalo, MI, which is very close).

On the down side, you won't make enough to be able to go there.

This is a good job and a good place to start for a young, eager journalist. I started my career in Michigan City. Adam is a good person to work with.

I'm not sure what the beef with Paxton is. I've been working for a Paxton newspaper for more than four years and it has been a great experience. Our SE position is open now. If anyone wants info, PM me.

Ask Durham how they feel about Paxton.
I understand that part of it. They didn't handle things well in Durham. But I think I'd learn more about a particular shop before I'd condemn it because of ownership.

Oh there are lots of stories I (and others) could tell (none of which involve Durham).

And just for clarification, Michigan City (city and newspaper) is a fine place.

Maybe Paxton just hates North Carolina, because what happened in Durham happened in High Point the year before.
