Sun Sentinel whacked at least 7 from its newsroom Wednesday.

2 news managers, 2 graphic artists, one features copy editor, one news copy editor and one sports copy editor/online producer.

I was just patting Sentinel on the back for filling job in sports. Oh well.

It blows my mind that so many places are regarding copy editors as the most disposable position on the staff.

I firmly believe in the importance of good copy editors, but it's hard to feed the beast with fewer writers.

Does this mean Orlando cuts are coming? If not ... that can't be going over well in Fort Lauderdale.
That's one of the dangers when you start sharing resources and the big boss is at the less impacted shop. Raleigh-Charlotte have dealt with that issue for a few years.

WTF!!!!!

Word is the Sun Sentinel's staffing was higher than the other Tribune papers so cuts were made there. Few copy editors/designers remain, which is still too low despite many pages being done out of Chicago. The paper is down to three seniors editors (production, online, editorial page) and no top editor. The two Florida papers share one overall boss. Its newsroom is down to around 150 from a high a few years ago of 360.

What's a news manager? An assistant Metro editor or something?

Mind-boggling.
