The Academy Awards

Maybe Paul Sorvino had the wrong politics or something. I can imagine Anne Heche was left off because of the many…interesting…she's said and done.

If politics led to either being left out, then they just ought to get rid of the entire element.

More likely the production assistant they assigned to gather raw material for the In Memoriam segment ten days before the broadcast simply missed it.

A teary John Travolta couldn't distract from Oscars' In Memoriam's missing big names

I don't know why they figure saving - what, 10 sec. of time by omitting well-known actors "helps" the show. The "snub list" is usually the final word on the show for the year, it makes the Academy look even more out of touch that left someone off the list. Though there are some years where the "snubs" are mostly TV people, The SAG reel is always better.

I had no idea what his politics were, but I'd bet dollars to donuts the producers did know, which is a more plausible explanation than simply overlooking him in lieu of someone else who no one has ever heard of. That's really forked up, but that's reality; people are petty and triggered and they'll take their shots when they can, especially under the guise of oops, I didn't mean to.

Maybe! I'm not sure how reliable a narrator his wife is.

I'm also not sure why AMPAS would go out of its way to draw that sort of attention to itself.

Sorvino, Heche and Sizemore's omissions were odd though - it wasn't like they had small parts in big films. They had major parts in big films.

You folks forget that at the end of the day the Oscars is really just a trade group's annual convention that happens to be televised. That trade group gets decide how long their segments are and who gets in them...in the case of Sizemore, he was a terrible human by most accounts; in the case of Heche, she'd made her share of enemies along the way and I have no idea about Sorvino but maybe he turned down an Academy invite at one point in his career?

Politics doesn't matter says the woman who instantly turns to political conspiracy.

It ended very badly for Heche — understand why someone like her on the border didn't make it. Surprised by Sorvino though.
