I don't know that experience and won't pretend I do. But I am very sorry.

Record Scratch moment is a great way to describe it. I think anybody who has been marginalized due to an aspect of their identity understands that feeling. Children want to fit in so badly, but man, some of them can be absolutely horrible to one another. Of course, they have adults teaching them to be bigots, too.
