To union or not to union?

This is one issue where nobody's going to change anyone else's mind. So I'm not about to try.

I'm only going to say ... zag, you're off-base on your myths.

I don't see why any newspaper employees think they need a union.

Just look at the teachers' union and our wnderful public education system.

I've always thought it would be good to work at a union paper, just for the fact the wages are better. But I've talked to people at union papers, and the paycheck is how they trap you in there. It may suck and you amy work with idiots, but the check is decent, and most people have families, so you can't do shirt.

Going back to non-union papers could mean a big pay cut.

My last paper some of the old-timers were telling me about the few times people tried to unionize. The owners had people find out where the meetings were, who was there and those people were gone.
well, I'm don't work for a newspaper. However I am in a union. We don't pay ANYTHING for our Medical Coverage. Can anyone at a NON-UNION place of business say the same?...We also have a higher wage than non-union shops....so, let's see, HIGHER WAGES, FULLY EMPLOYER PAID medical coverage....ahhhhh, why would anyone NOT want a union?

I work at a union newspaper where we pay a lot of money for shirtty medical coverage, and we also have the shirttiest retirement plan I've ever seen.

As far as I can tell, the only thing the union accomplishes is keeping incompetent people employed.
